Christianity, with Jesus Christ as the central figure and Bible as the Holy book; is one of the largest religious conviction in the world today with about 2.18 billion followers or in other words nearly about one third of the global population. The Center for the Study of Global Christianity (CSGC) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary states that there are approximately 41,000 Christian denominations and organizations in the world which also takes into account cultural distinctions of denominations in different countries. Amongst the Christian denominations the Roman Catholic Church is the largest group.

Bishop Joseph Walker, a pastor of Mt. Zion is a thorough Christian and inspires other Christians to follow the word of God and the path of righteousness showed by Jesus.

Baptism is an important term related to this religion. It is referred as a sacred ritual performed by the Christian Churches in front of the congregation, to symbolize or declare a person’s faith in God and their commitment to repentance of sins.

Christians strictly believe Christ’s resurrection from the dead. This concluded his public ministry on Earth and proved that Jesus was the Son of God or Almighty, who had come to earth to teach about love, fellowship and to save people of the world from their transgressions. This religion celebrates the resurrection of Christ annually. The principle feast, named Easter, is generally celebrated on Sundays between March 22nd to April 25th. The entry of Jesus to Jerusalem is celebrated on the Sunday just before Easter and is commonly known as ‘Palm Sunday’. The memory of Christ’s last supper with his disciples is marked by another ceremony the’ Holy Thursday’, also referred as the ‘Maundy Thursday’ while Good Friday commemorates Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross.

The birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated with huge pomp and festivity every year on December 25th. There is a story in Bible, related to this occasion named Christmas. It is believed by the Christians that Mother Mary was married to Joseph, a carpenter. But she had been told by an angel that she would conceive a son by the power of the “Holy Spirit”. Thus as foretold by the angel, she miraculously became pregnant and gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem. At the time of his birth, a star appeared which signified the birth of the King of Jews.
